• Speaking - critical reading and writing에 기초한 설득력과 자신의 생각을 자기만의 방식으로 질문하고 자신의 사고를 정립하는 토론수업

 

요즘 많은 학생들은 작가의 의도를 파악하지 못한채 겉으로 보이는 내용에 의존해 책을 읽고 있습니다. 모든 문학작품들은 작품 안에서 인간애, 사회 상황, 철학적 사고를 제시하고 추구합니다. 그리고 이런 이념들은 인간에게 있어 여러방식으로 표현되고 담론화 되고 있습니다. 이러한 수준높은 목표를 추구하기 위해서는 유명한 소설가, 수필가, 시인, 문학비평가, 철학자들의 글에 대한 critical reading이 뒷받침 되어야만 합니다. 이것은 개인이 가지고 있는기존의 생각을 확장해줄 뿐 아니라, 자신의 가치관을 정립할 수 있는 근간이 되어줍니다. 또한 학생들에게 글로써 자신의 생각을 효과적으로 표현할 수 있는 능력을 키워줍니다. 이것은 매우 효과적이고 높은 완성도의 학습으로, 모든 유명 대학들이 지적인 능력의 발전을 위해 추구하는 방식입니다.

 

피나클의 수업은 학생들의 전반적인 영어 말하기, 읽기, 쓰기 능력에 중점을 두고, 대학수준의 커리큘럼을 소화할 수 있도록 도와줍니다.

 

 

 

• Vocabulary – Understanding the extent of its usage in reading and application in writing

• Reading – Critical reading of various texts, including fiction, essays, non-fiction, short stories, and poetry

• Writing – Learning the craft of mechanics, diction, style, vocabulary usage, overall command of language and critical thinking

• Speaking – Formulation of cogent arguments based on critical reading and writing, questioning one’s own methods of thinking and testing the limits of one’s own belief system

 

Current problem among students today and what Pinnacle Academy intends to undertake –

Students today read books by seeking superficial narratives, unable to read the underlying subtext provided by the authors.  All literature intends to offer illuminating insight into humanity, our social conditions, and philosophical pursuits.  Since these ideals are not clearly defined – unlike those found in math and science – human beings engage in critical discourse to explore many methods of thinking and perceiving the world.  In order to accomplish such lofty goals, our discussions should be aided by critical readings – namely by renowned fiction writers, essayists, poets, literary critics, and philosophers.  The readings not only enhance the ideas already developing within us, but they legitimate our claims via more established sets of ideas in history.  Furthermore, the readings help sharpen students to better organize their ideas in writing.  It is no surprise that these distinct activities are seamlessly intertwined, and all reputable universities aim to foster such processes of intellectual development.

The class at Pinnacle is designed to focus on students’ overall development in English speaking, reading, and writing skills, in hopes that they would ease into college level curriculum.
